While the traditional 911 lines have been retained, just about everything else has changed on Porsche's flagship. Notable changes to the 2005 Porsche 911 include more powerful engines, a new transmission, variable-ratio rack-and-pinion steering, an adjustable suspension and new seating options in a redesigned passenger compartment. The Carrera's standard 3.6-liter flat six is similar to the previous generations, but gets a power pop from 315 to 325 horsepower. Mated to a 5 speed triptronic transmission you can drive easy, and it shifts gently. Push it, and it'll deliver crisp, firm shifts at redline. It responds to the steering wheel-mounted shifter buttons quicker than previous generations did, and is the first Tiptronic that won't leave the enthusiast driver suffering from shifter envy.
